About the Band

Ducharme-Jones

Recently relocated to Des Moines, The Ducharme-Jones Band performs regularly at the city's best listening rooms with every performance just a little bit different. Their five piece band features David Ducharme-Jones on lead guitar and vocals, Anne Ducharme-Jones on rhythm guitar and vocals, John Mattingly on keys, Scot Sutherland on bass, and Jim Stevens on drums. Some nights the set list includes all originals, and some nights they pull in some of their favorite covers or debut a new song to test the waters.  If you can find your way to one of their club dates, come prepared to enjoy some americana, roots-rock with a little Austin flavor in the heart of the Midwest.

(Austin, TX)  Ducharme-Jones, Strangest Things (2016) showcases a collection of thirteen songs tied together by soulful vocals, sophisticated and melodic guitar, and rootsy arrangements.  Ducharme-Jones' debut album features the songwriting and performances by Dave Ducharme-Jones and wife and bandmate Annie Ducharme-Jones, longtime residents of Austin, Texas.  The couple began co-writing their recent release following Dave’s solo releases Weeds (2009) and A LOUD Guitar (2012), as Annie moved into more songwriting and shared lead vocals.  Opening track Red Roses is an uptempo original with rock and country roots; Crazy Heart is definitely a country rocker; Two Satellites is an auto-biographical story of the couples first date, and Of the Water is a moody, introspective ballad featuring Dave's warm vocals and Annie's harmonies in an understated arrangement.  Beside You Now and A Little Bit of Luck are carefully crafted love songs meant to tug on your heartstrings.  Each song on the record has it’s own story and personality for the listener to appreciate. Ducharme-Jones, Strangest Things will appeal to listeners with an appreciation for an Americana Genre, upbeat lyrical songwriting with a little hook, and Dave’s signature guitar style with influences from rock, modern country, blues and roots.

Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, Dave Ducharme-Jones began playing professionally from his early teens when his immersion in music began to define his direction. His experiences in a high school jazz band were prominent in shaping his work ethic. He toured the Midwest during his later teen years performing with older, more experienced musicians; Dave describes that part of his career as “trial by fire... what didn’t kill you made you stronger.” Dave and Annie met before he had his first record deal at 19 and and they left for the Bay Area where Dave continued to perform in original projects and Annie continued dabbling in writing and worked on bookings and publicity.

Annie began writing songs and playing guitar as a teen growing up in northwestern Iowa and Seattle, Washington. Returning  to Iowa in her later teen years,  she met Dave through mutual music connections. They moved to San Francisco and lived in Marin County before making Austin, Texas their home for many years. For Annie, music took a back seat while raising their son and returning to Graduate School at the University of Texas to become a Psychotherapist.  But once Taylor left for college, she found her way back to performing and writing with Dave, culminating in The Ducharme-Jones Band. Now returning to their roots in the Midwest, they are writing and recording new material and finding their way in their new creative community of musicians in Des Moines.
